Our 2010 Family Site: Abby's First ER Visit

Before leaving Boston, we had to do a little shopping :) So, we were in the GAP...I was shopping and Travis had both kids. Zach was up on his shoulders and Abby tried to climb into someone else's stroller. Travis had her by the wrist and pulled her away from the stroller, just as she pulled in the opposite direction...

Travis didn't think anything of it, but Abby started crying and asking for me. We figured she was just being sensitive and wasn't happy with Daddy for telling her "no". We left the store, but as we headed for the car, we started thinking something wasn't right. When she moved her left arm, she would whine and say "ow". At first we thought she was just reminding us that Daddy had hurt her, but after a couple times, we realized there was no way she could pull off faking being hurt for this long. By the time we got to the car, we were pretty concerned. She fussed when I put her in her car seat. Then, I tried to hand her a full water bottle. She reached for it, but immediately started crying and we knew something was wrong, so headed for the Emergency Room.

She was holding her left arm by the wrist, so we assumed something was wrong with her wrist-either it was broken or her wrist had been dislocated. Travis was in disbelief, as he hadn't pulled that hard. He started crying, as soon as he realized it was serious. I, of course, got a little teary myself, but then told him it would be alright, as long as they didn't report him for child abuse :)

When we got to the hospital, they took us right in and knew exactly what was wrong-Nurse Maid's elbow...her elbow had been dislocated. They told us it would be a very quick fix and immediate relief for her. I was still registering her when the Doctor popped it back into place, so I missed the whole thing...by the time Zach & I got back to her room, she was gone and already playing in the playroom!
